TALAASH:-Review:Kunal Deshpande

One more suspense thriller released on 30th November’2012.

Talaash creates its chills tapping into the dark side of the mind, which makes it an unusual Bollywood film. The writer –director has created Aamir khan’s character Surjan Singh Shikhawat who is in command of work but out of control in personal life.He is appointed for solving a case of the mysterious death of a superstar. His guilt feeling about being the cause of his son’s accidental death has made him almost insomniac.

The writer-director adds new characters to the tale as Shekhawat(Aamir Khan) proceeds with the investigation of the case.Shekhawat comes across a sex worker Rosie(Kareena Kapoor) who provides him some leads about the actor’s mysterious death. In the red light belly where Rosie works, there’s a character Tehmur(Nawazuddin Siddique)who knows more than actually he pretends. On a parallel track Shikhawat’s wife Roshni(Rani Mukherjee) is trying to get out from the trauma of their son’s death.

As the story proceeds the mystery gets revealed about each character’s relation to the mysterious death of the actor underlining the base line THE ANSWER LIES WITHIN.

According to me, the film is a suspense on the surface but is also as much about grief and surviving personal loss. It is a story about personal relationships and questions one’s belief in the paranormals. The twist in the end creates a thrill but at the same time it is not hard to be coming for intelligent audience.Still Talaash benefits from its characters and the actors who portrayed it.The special mention is required for Nawazuddin Siddique who portrays the limping Taimur. He has inhabited the character like a chameleon.Hatts off to Nawazuddin.Aamir Khan maintains a balance portraying the two states of his character’s mind.Kareena Kapoor has perfectly underplayed her character avoiding gaudy mannerisms of a prostitutes but adding the glam quotient.Ram Sampath’s haunting background score,KU Mohanan’s photography and real Mumbai locations give a distinct texture to the film.

One may get disappointed due to hype that got created especially due to the three superstars playing the the main leads.Only Aamir Khan portraying the main lead along with not so established actors portraying the characters of Rosie and Roshni could may have gained more appreciation for the movie.
